Every clock below is running now. Watch the seconds. They do not move at the same rate, because these cities are not having the same day.

Four anchors that never move

On a conventional clock the sun wanders. Sunset lands at 16:40 in December and 21:00 in June. Ez Clock inverts that. The sun stays put and the hours move instead.

Three stages, seven hours each

Twenty-one divides into three equal parts. Each part covers one phase of the solar day. Their numbers are equal. Their durations are not, and that is the entire point.

Night

0 → 7

Sunset to sunrise. In December this stage stretches and its seconds run slow. In June it contracts and they race.

Morning

7 → 14

Sunrise to solar noon. Seven hours, however much or little morning your latitude and season allow.

Afternoon and evening

14 → 21

Solar noon back down to sunset. Watching this stage run out is watching your daylight run out.

A second is not always the same length

An Ez Hour holds 100 Ez Minutes. An Ez Minute holds 100 Ez Seconds. Each stage holds exactly 70,000 Ez Seconds, always, everywhere.

So when the stage is long, those seconds stretch to fill it. When it is short, they compress. In London on the shortest day of the year one night second lasts about 832 milliseconds while one afternoon second lasts about 201. Time genuinely moves four times faster across that winter afternoon than across the night around it.

This is not a bug being tolerated. It is the clock reporting something true about the day that a conventional clock deliberately hides.
